India Approves Fifth Semiconductor Plant as Mission 2.0 Targets Domestic Chip Production

Modi Cabinet cleared seven key proposals, giving the green light to a fifth semiconductor manufacturing unit alongside initiatives for mobile assembly, railway upgrades and urea production, signaling a coordinated push to broaden India’s chip ecosystem.

Micron announced the opening of India’s first semiconductor fab, marking the entry of a leading global memory chip maker into the country’s manufacturing base and providing advanced process technology for local customers.

India Semiconductor Mission 2.0 outlines a $15 billion investment plan, introduces the Electronic Component Manufacturing Scheme and targets thousands of new jobs, aiming to reduce import dependence and position India as a regional chip hub.

CG Power’s OSAT subsidiary will begin chip packaging and testing operations by mid‑2026, adding critical downstream capacity to the domestic supply chain and supporting the broader mission to localize semiconductor production.
