BharatGPT Launches Nationwide to Challenge ChatGPT and Boost India’s AI Independence

BharatGPT launches as India’s first generative AI model, built to rival global services such as ChatGPT. Backed by Reliance Industries, the system aims to expand domestic AI research and provide locally hosted language generation.

Reliance Industries is supplying the capital and cloud infrastructure needed for BharatGPT, emphasizing a strategy to keep AI development inside India’s ecosystem and lessen dependence on foreign platforms, according to the project’s public roadmap.

CoRover unveiled a lightweight variant named BharatGPT Mini, designed for edge devices and offline applications. The mini model promises on‑device inference, reducing latency and removing the need for continuous internet connectivity.

Open Source Community now has access to the BharatGPT source code on GitHub, where the README outlines the model’s architecture and training data. Early reviews suggest performance comparable to leading models, encouraging developers to customize and contribute.
