BCCI Sets Agenda for IPL 2027 Impact Player Rule Decision
BCCI convened a high‑level meeting with IPL franchise owners, senior officials and the Board’s governance committee to outline the roadmap for the tournament’s 20th edition in 2027, focusing on scheduling, venue allocation and commercial partnerships and potential broadcast rights renegotiations as well as fan engagement initiatives.
IPL stakeholders were invited to present proposals on the controversial impact player rule, which allows a designated substitute to bat or bowl, a change first trialed in 2026. The meeting aimed to assess competitive balance, team strategy implications and alignment with ICC regulations and revenue sharing models.
Stakeholders indicated that a decision on the impact player rule could reshape squad composition, with some franchises lobbying for a flexible cap while others warn it may dilute traditional match dynamics. The BCCI is expected to issue a formal statement before the next IPL season launch.
