India Deploys Smart Track Technology at SAI Bengaluru to Boost Asian Games Performance

Smart Track system installed at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Bengaluru facility allows athletes to monitor speed, stride length and heart rate in real time, using sensors embedded in the track surface. The system records data at 100 Hz, transmitting it to a tablet for instant analysis.

SAI Bengaluru has opened the upgraded training zone for sprinters, jumpers and hurdlers preparing for the 2026 Asian Games, scheduling daily sessions for over 200 national athletes. Athletes also receive video feedback from high‑speed cameras positioned along the lane.

Indian Athletics Federation reports that the smart‑track data will guide coaches in adjusting technique, aiming to reduce race times by up to two seconds in key events. Early trials showed a 1.5‑second improvement in the 400‑meter dash for a test group.

Budget allocation of Rs 702 crore for the Asian Games preparation includes the smart‑track project, reflecting a focus on technology‑driven performance gains. The funding also covers nutrition, physiotherapy and overseas exposure camps for the squad.
