India Climbs to Third Place Globally with 288 GW Renewable Energy Capacity

India now reports 288 GW of installed renewable energy capacity, moving it to the third‑largest position worldwide, according to a Press Information Bureau statement by Minister Shri Pralhad Joshi that highlights the rapid scale‑up of clean power.

Solar Power supplies 56 percent of the total renewable mix, making it the leading source and driving much of the capacity growth, while wind, hydro and emerging battery‑storage projects fill the remaining share.

AMPIN Energy secured a $100 million investment from Norway’s development finance arm Norfund, earmarked for new solar farms and battery‑energy‑storage systems (BESS), reinforcing India’s strategy to pair generation with grid‑level storage.

Energy Transition analysts note that the combined capacity surge and foreign capital align with the global shift from merely building power plants to integrating renewable sources, storage and smart grids across national networks.
