India Advances Ballistic Missile Defence With Seven New Indigenous Technologies
Indian Ballistic Missile Defence Programme aims to create a layered shield that detects, tracks and destroys hostile ballistic missiles before they reach Indian territory, using ground‑based radars and interceptor missiles coordinated by a central command.
DRDO announced seven indigenous technologies that will power the missile defence system, including advanced radar arrays, high‑speed data links, missile propulsion units, precision guidance modules, launch control software, hardened launch canisters and autonomous target discrimination algorithms.
Ghatak is DRDO’s next‑generation missile project designed to complement the defence programme, focusing on rapid‑response interceptors capable of engaging targets at high altitude and speed, thereby strengthening the overall protective envelope.
Defence Industry analysts expect the indigenous suite to reduce import dependence, create new manufacturing jobs and position India as a potential exporter of missile‑defence components to friendly nations seeking self‑reliant security solutions.
