AIIMS Partners With ISRO To Develop Space Medicine for Upcoming Indian Lunar Mission

AIIMS will partner with the Indian Space Research Organisation to design and test space‑medicine solutions aimed at protecting the health of Indian astronauts slated for a lunar mission and ensure mission success.

ISRO plans to send a crewed mission to the Moon within the next decade and has turned to AIIMS for expertise in managing physiological effects such as microgravity, radiation exposure, and bone loss and maintain crew performance.

Space Medicine research will involve developing medical protocols, preventive measures, and treatment guidelines that can be used in the confined environment of a lunar spacecraft and on the Moon’s surface while minimizing medical risk.

Outcome expected from the AIIMS‑ISRO collaboration includes a ready‑to‑deploy health‑care framework that strengthens India’s capability to conduct safe, sustainable crewed lunar exploration and positions the nation as a leader in space‑medicine research for future deep‑space endeavors.
