India Surpasses 300 GW Renewable Energy Mark Ahead of 2030 Climate Goal

India is expected to exceed the 300‑gigawatt renewable energy milestone by the end of August, senior power ministry official Prahlad Joshi said, marking a significantly key step toward the nation’s 2030 clean‑energy goal.

Solar capacity grew by a record 27 GW in the first half of 2026, according to PV Tech, keeping solar the leading source in India’s renewable mix and pushing overall capacity toward the 300 GW target.

Transmission and battery storage are identified as the next growth front, with industry analysts noting that expanding grid links and large‑scale storage will be essential to integrate the new solar and wind output.

Government data shows 52,537 MW of generation capacity was added in fiscal year 2025, bringing total renewable capacity to roughly 300 GW, which equals about 60 percent of the 500 GW target set for 2030.
