India Union Budget Introduces Two Schemes Empowering Divyangjan and Senior Citizens Nationwide

Samajik Adhikarita Camps have reached over 58,000 Divyangjan and senior citizens across the country, providing health checks, counseling, and assistive devices through coordinated local events, and are run jointly by NGOs and the Ministry of Social Justice.

Union Budget 2026‑27 announced two new empowerment schemes – the Samajik Adhikarita initiative and the Sahayak Upkaran Yojana – aimed at expanding access to assistive technology and livelihood support for persons with disabilities, and the budget earmarks funds for training and infrastructure upgrades.

Sahayak Upkaran Yojana will supply subsidized assistive devices such as hearing aids and mobility aids in every Uttar Pradesh assembly constituency, with state officials tasked to distribute them through local health centers, and the scheme is part of the government's broader push for inclusive development.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated the government's commitment to dignity, access, and opportunity for Divyangjan on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, linking the new schemes to broader inclusion goals, and the initiatives support the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision for an inclusive nation.
