ISRO Partners With AIIMS New Delhi to Advance Space Medicine Research for Future Crewed Missions

ISRO signs a memorandum of understanding with AIIMS New Delhi to launch joint research on space medicine, aiming to study human health challenges in microgravity and develop countermeasures for future Indian crewed missions.

AIIMS New Delhi will lead clinical trial design, share patient health data, train astronauts in basic medical procedures, and develop telemedicine platforms that can function with limited bandwidth on orbital stations.

The agreement taps ISRO’s GSAT communication satellite fleet and upcoming launch vehicles to transmit real‑time physiological data, allowing scientists to monitor bone density loss, muscle atrophy, cardiovascular changes, and radiation exposure throughout missions.

Stakeholders anticipate that the partnership will enhance astronaut health safety, generate scalable remote‑care technologies for underserved rural populations, attract private sector investment in space‑health solutions, and elevate India’s standing in global space medicine research.
