India Advances 2036 Olympic Bid With Plan to Build Ten New Sports Complexes

India is formally submitting its proposal to host the 2036 Summer Olympics, marking the first time the nation has entered a bid for a future Games beyond 2032, and will be presented at the upcoming IOC session in Bangkok.

Government officials say the bid will rely on constructing ten new Olympic‑standard venues spread across major regions, each featuring climate‑friendly designs and planned legacy use for community sports, aiming to meet International Olympic Committee requirements for capacity, transport and sustainability.

Sports Ministry highlighted that the infrastructure plan is expected to generate thousands of jobs and stimulate tourism, projecting a 5% increase in tourist arrivals during the Games and a long‑term economic boost for host cities after the Games conclude.

Bid Committee released a timeline indicating that detailed venue designs and transport upgrades, including upgraded rail links and digital ticketing systems, will be ready for IOC review by mid‑2025, positioning India to compete with other candidate nations.
