Ayushman Bharat Expands Digital Mission to Cover Over 60 Crore Indians Nationwide

Ayushman Bharat entered its eighth year and now provides health insurance to more than 60 crore Indians, offering up to ₹5 lakh per family for secondary and tertiary treatment, and linking beneficiaries to a unified electronic health card.

Health Secretary highlighted that the scheme’s integration with the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission will allow real‑time data exchange between hospitals, insurers and state health agencies, improving claim verification and reducing fraud across the public system.

West Bengal health officials said more than 50,000 patients received free care in the first month after the state’s rollout, with a majority accessing services for chronic disease management and maternal health under the AB‑PMJAY umbrella.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the nationwide digital platform, promising seamless eligibility checks through a mobile app, instant card download, and integration with existing programs such as e‑Sanjeevani, aiming to create a single‑window health ecosystem.
