India Accelerates Chip Production With Three Operational Plants and Twelve Approved Factories
SEMICON India reports that three semiconductor fabrication plants are already in production under the national chip mission, detailing their locations such as Gujarat, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu, and noting they began output earlier this year.
Current Plants each have a combined capacity of roughly 1.2 million wafers per month, employing over 5,000 skilled workers and supplying chips for mobile devices and automotive electronics, and host advanced lithography lines.
Approved Projects include twelve new factories slated for approval, with investments totaling about $15 billion, expected to be commissioned by the end of the year across states like Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, spread across six states and aiming to create 20,000 jobs.
Industry Impact forecasts that the added capacity could raise India’s chip output by 30 percent, reduce import dependence, and attract further foreign equipment suppliers, according to analysts at the conference, while the government expects the sector to contribute $10 billion to GDP by 2030.
