India Approves DRDO Missile Technology Transfer to Boost Indigenous Defence Production

Rajnath Singh approved the transfer of missile technology developed by DRDO to Indian defence manufacturers, authorising the sharing of indigenous designs to boost domestic production and reduce reliance on imports amid security concerns.

Defence Research and Development Organisation will hand over at least seven indigenous missile systems, including surface‑to‑air and cruise variants, as listed in its recent catalogue, enabling firms to integrate advanced propulsion and guidance modules into new weapons and naval platforms.

Indian defence industry expects the move to accelerate the self‑reliant “Make in India” programme, with analysts projecting a rise in indigenous output that could support the ₹1,10,000 crore defence contracts approved this year.

Security officials stress that controlled technology transfer aims to safeguard sensitive data while expanding industrial capacity, positioning India to meet strategic needs amid regional tensions and deepen ties with Japan under a joint defence technology framework.
