DRDO Transfers Missile Technology to Indian Defence Firms Boosting Indigenous Production

DRDO completed nine technology‑transfer agreements covering missile propulsion, guidance and warhead modules and handed them to thirteen Indian industry partners, a significant step designed to shift production from labs to private factories.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh approved the transfers, stating they will boost MSMEs and deep‑tech startups, create a domestic supply chain and help India emerge as a global defence manufacturing hub.

Defence Secretary earlier called for DRDO to trim its project list to ten major programmes and give private firms a larger role, a directive that paved the way for the current missile tech hand‑over.

Industry partners anticipate the missile technology transfer will accelerate indigenous capability, reduce reliance on imports and address regional security concerns, especially after DRDO showcased its systems at the Africa Aerospace and Defence Expo 2026.
