AIIMS Delhi Transfers AI Mammography Technology to BPL for Wider Clinical Use

AIIMS Delhi has handed over its home‑grown artificial‑intelligence mammography interpretation system to BPL, a leading Indian medical‑equipment manufacturer, marking the first official transfer of AI‑driven imaging technology from a public research institute to a commercial producer.

BPL plans to integrate the AI module into its existing line of digital mammography units, enabling on‑site automated image analysis that can flag suspicious lesions for radiologists, potentially reducing diagnostic turnaround time in hospitals across the country.

The transfer is expected to broaden access to advanced breast‑cancer screening in underserved regions, as AI‑assisted interpretation can support facilities lacking specialist radiologists, aligning with national goals to improve early detection rates and reduce mortality.

Health officials have welcomed the collaboration, noting that AI‑based reading can complement radiologist expertise and that BPL’s extensive distribution network will accelerate deployment, with pilot programs slated for major public hospitals later this year.
