SEBI Mandates Digital Accessibility Compliance for Indian Stock Market Platforms
SEBI has issued a directive requiring all stock exchanges, brokerage firms and listed companies to make their digital platforms accessible to persons with disabilities. The rule applies to websites, mobile apps and electronic filing systems.
India's broader disability agenda, highlighted in a recent Press Information Bureau release, emphasizes equal access to services and aligns the new market rule with the Accessible India Campaign’s goal of universal digital inclusion.
Market participants will need to conduct accessibility audits and publish compliance statements, prompting investment in assistive technologies and staff training to meet standards for visually and hearing‑impaired users.
Disability advocates say the mandate could close the gap where 80% of disabled Indians lack health coverage, by ensuring they can monitor investments and access financial services without barriers and promote financial inclusion nationwide.
