BTG Pactual TIG and Conservation International Restore 20,000 Hectares of Cerrado

BTG Pactual TIG has partnered with Conservation International to restore 20,000 hectares of Brazil’s Cerrado savanna, marking a major milestone in the fund’s environmental portfolio. The land, previously degraded by agriculture, is now under a coordinated reforestation plan.

Conservation International says the restored area will reconnect fragmented habitats, supporting species such as the maned wolf and giant anteater, and boosting carbon sequestration. The initiative is part of a broader Latin American reforestation strategy aimed at adding millions of hectares by 2030.

Cerrado Ecosystem benefits include increased biodiversity, improved water regulation for nearby communities, and potential economic opportunities through sustainable agroforestry. Stakeholders expect the project to serve as a model for public‑private collaboration in climate‑resilient land management.

Latin American Governments have pledged support, offering tax incentives and technical assistance to scale similar restoration projects across the region, aiming to meet international climate commitments and protect endemic species.
