ISRO Launches GSLV‑F17 Rocket Carrying EOS‑05 Satellite to Expand Earth Observation Capabilities

ISRO launched the GSLV‑F17 rocket, nicknamed “Naughty Boy,” carrying the EOS‑05 Earth observation satellite, the fifth in the EOS series, into a geostationary transfer orbit to provide continuous imaging of the planet’s surface and atmosphere.

GSLV‑F17 is a heavy‑lift launch vehicle that successfully placed EOS‑05 into geostationary orbit, enabling 24‑hour monitoring of land use, water resources, and natural disasters across India’s territory, improving situational awareness for disaster response.

EOS‑05 will deliver high‑resolution imagery for agriculture, forestry, and climate monitoring, helping farmers optimize crop yields, track forest cover changes, and support early warning systems for floods, droughts, and wildfires.

ISRO officials said the mission enhances national capacity for climate monitoring, resource management, and informs policy decisions on environmental protection, marking a significant step toward self‑reliance in space‑based Earth observation and data sovereignty.
