NASA Scientific Visualization Studio Launches Interactive Global Disaster Warnings Viewer
NASA Scientific Visualization Studio released a new web‑based widget that displays the Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System (GDACS) warnings on an interactive map, allowing users to see real‑time hazard information worldwide today.
GDACS integrates data from multiple agencies, including seismic networks and meteorological services, to provide alerts for earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, volcanic eruptions and severe storms, updating each event as new measurements arrive quickly.
The widget features color‑coded icons for each hazard type, zoomable satellite imagery, and a timeline slider that quickly lets users review past incidents and compare their geographic spread over weeks or months.
Stakeholders such as emergency managers, NGOs and the public can embed the widget on websites or mobile apps, improving situational awareness and effectively supporting coordinated response efforts across regions vulnerable to natural disasters.
