Maharashtra Surpasses 74 Million ABHA Accounts, Boosting Digital Health Coverage

Maharashtra reports that more than 74 million residents have created an Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) in the past year, surpassing earlier targets and marking a major step in the state’s digital health rollout.

Health Secretary of India highlighted the milestone as evidence that the national push for digital health under Ayushman Bharat is gaining traction, noting that ABHA enrollment improves patient data access and streamlines insurance claims.

Maharashtra Government plans to link the ABHA platform with its public hospitals and primary care centers, aiming to reduce paperwork, speed up treatment approvals, and provide real‑time health analytics for better resource allocation.

Experts say the 74 million ABHA accounts represent roughly 60 percent of Maharashtra’s population, suggesting that digital enrollment could serve as a model for other Indian states seeking to expand universal health coverage.
