FOSS United announced a 2025 conference titled “India’s Role in Shaping the Future of Open Source and AI,” inviting paper abstracts until early June. The virtual event will feature regional meet‑ups in Bangalore and Hyderabad, targeting developers, policymakers, and researchers. The call for papers emphasizes case studies that demonstrate India's impact on AI governance and open source licensing.

India has emerged as a major open source contributor, adding over 1,200 repositories last year—a 15% increase. Government programs and industry partnerships are boosting developer participation, positioning the country to influence global AI standards and collaborative software development.

Organizers seek submissions on AI model transparency, open data ecosystems, education initiatives, and interdisciplinary work linking AI ethics with local language processing to tackle bias and accessibility. Selected papers will be presented at the summit, with travel grants offered for in‑person attendance and publication in FOSS United proceedings.
