ISRO Launches First Geo‑Imaging Satellite EOS‑05, Expanding India's Space Capabilities

ISRO launched the EOS-05 Earth observation satellite on the GSLV‑F17 vehicle, delivering a 2,367 kg payload into geosynchronous orbit, marking India’s first dedicated geo‑imaging satellite and earning the nickname “Naughty Boy.”

EOS-05 carries high‑resolution sensors that can capture detailed images of the Earth’s surface, supporting defence surveillance, disaster monitoring, weather forecasting and agricultural planning, a capability described as strategically important for national security and resource management.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the successful launch as a proud moment for India, emphasizing the country’s growing self‑reliance in space technology and its ability to deliver critical services from orbit.

The launch reinforces ISRO’s confidence in the GSLV‑F17 after earlier setbacks, expands the nation’s satellite fleet, and positions India to offer commercial imaging services to global customers, strengthening its space market presence in the international arena.
